EVALUATION

QUESTION 1
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms if conventions of real media texts?

I have picked 9 different shots from our video that stand out.

The first shot i have chosen is the shot with the back of our CD cover and the title, this is important as it it is showing the audience what the song and artist iss. We have chosen to put the back cover on as it identifys the cd.
I then chose the shot of florence appearing on screen, this introduces us into the video and sets the story.
I have chosen the scene of florences outfit as it shows the audience what she is wearing, this would appeal to the target audience (the girls) as they may wear a similar styled clothing terefore making them intrested in the video.
The next shot i chose was the paper hearts, this is a "fun" scene as the hearts build up and is something different to use in the video. It also is showing the mood in the video.
The balloon sceen adds fun, exitment and alot of colour into the video, I think that thiss is important as it brings the mood up and shows that the artist is fun and exiting.
I then chose the scene of florence dancing in London, this is important as it sets a scene and represents Britishness as he is a British artist.
The scene of florences lips was picked as this is lip scynced well and a few scences like this appear in the video.
The scene with the guard was one of the most popular scenes in the video shown from feedback that we got. It also adds fun and humour to the video.

In our video we set it in various locations; London, (Trafalgar square, Covent garden), In the boys bedroom, out side, inside. We chose to film some parts in London as the audience will immediatly know where the artist is and may draw people to our video if they are from London or like London. Indoor and out door locations were picked as we didnt want to just film in one place, we wanted varied locations to make it more exiting a sit may have got boring with just ussing one location or two.

When we decided on the person we wanted to play florence we had to think closly about costume as we wanted clothing to fit in with the genre of the music e.g. we didnt want her in joggers, trainers and hoodie as this outfit does not fit in with the genre of alternative rock/indie. We picked a girly dress kind of vintage styled jacket, it was quite unusual but this fits in with the research we did about florence and the Machine as she wears unusual clothing.

When editing our video we put a old vintage effect onto it, this relates to the genre and styling of the artist. This also went into the designing of the CD cover and advert. We also changed from scene to scene quite quickly as people would not get ored of looking at the same scene for a long period of time.

Our characters are introduced in the start of our video, We only have two characters in the video which is florence and the oy in the starting scene. Florence the main character is introduced appearing to be inside the television screen this is unusual and intresting from sseeing this in the first few moments of the video people know who the artist is and seeing how unusual the scene is it would maybe make people want to watch the rest of the video.

QUESTION 2
What have you learned from your audience feedback?

The target audience for our video would be people who listen to florence and the machine and similar artists such as ...

Example of our audience..

name:eleanor
age:17
lives:harlow
music:kings of leon, florence and the machine, paloma faith
shop:topshop,h&m,vintage shops
place to go:london

This is what the artisit Florence and the machine looks like

We looked at many outfits and clothes that she has worn to get an ideo of what clothes we shsould dress our artist in when filming.
We chose a dress and a fur jacket, this is unusual like her style and vintage looking, like girly with a twist. This owuld appeal to our audience if they liked her style then it may encourage them to watch the video. so i think we acheived the overall feeling of the look.
We posted our video onto facebook and you tube. We got a few comments on facebook, but none really with helpful critisism only comments such as "good job" which would not help us in what we needed to improve on. Our teacher showed her friends and they gave us good comments which we could use and think about, a main point that was mentioned was that the setting of London had no rela relevance in the story, I can see why they thought this but we decided to film here to add locations which everyone woud know and could link to where the artist is from.
Also another point that was mentioned was the syncing of the lips and knocking on the screen at the very start of the video when florence is in the television was not that good, we had to time the knocking when we made the knocking noise as we had to film the scene then burn it onto a disc and play it whilst filming it and then put the knocking ound over it which we had to do a few times but this was alot better than our previous attempts.
The feedback that we got from our teachers friends helped us in evaluationg our workk whereas comments on face book did not help very much. Also we didnt get that many comments so a problem with this is that is may be unrealiable, so it better to ask people directly to comment, that is what i have learnt when managing feed back.

QUESTION 3
We all have created a advert and a CD cover, Here they are….

Here is Katies CD cover and advert.

The advert the picture in the advert gives a sense of fun and exitement about the artist and song, this feeling is acheived from the pose she is pulling and the smile on her face. As the artist is looking straight forward it gives people the feeling that the advert is only talking to them. The colour used fit in with the genre and feeling of the video.
The CD cover is eye catching, and the way that the image is used three times draw your attention and is eye catching.

Here is Emmas CD cover and advert.
The CD cover: The title of the song "A Kiss with a Fist" is multi coloured, this is showing that the song is fun and exiting, and full of colour, the image has been edited to give an effect related to the genre.
The advert is relating again to the video by the heart and the title and informwtion needed is clear to read. The same images is ued on both the CD cover and advert linking them both together.

Here are my cd cover and advert.
The CD cover relate to the video by the television and the heart, the title and name of the artist again is clearly visable. The advert is eye catching and unusual, which would attract our audience, again there is a heart on it linking to the video.

We have all marketed our CD covers and Adverts in the same way, they all have the same information which is needed, the same style text and font.

The strengths of our marketing are that they are all eye catching, I think that if they were in a music shop on the shelves they would stand out, they appeal to our audience, it is clear who the artist is as there is a clear picture of her on the cover and also who the artist and what the name of the song is.

There are some weaknesses in our packaging and this is that although we have similar aspects in our packaging that is the same maybe there is not enough similarity in the images used to show that they are all advertising the same product.

The pricing of our single is not on our adverts/cd covers, but the price of the single would be £2.99. This is the average price of singles. We have looked at Florence and the machine singles and most are £2.99 so this would be a good price for it to be.

If the product was launghed it would be advertised in magazine such as NME as our target audience read this magazine as it advertises the same style of music as Florence and the Machine. Our video would be shown on music channels such as kerrang! Also on radio stations particularly NME radio.
We have used direct mrketing in our tasks from the way we have presented our cd cover and advert from the style they are. a it is alternative rock genre it will appeal to peple who like this type of musci straight away.

For direct marketing people who are part of Florence and the Machines fan page could receive direct marketing, they would be the first to receive the latest adverts/cd covers and the single, this may be an idea as then they would tell their friends who tell their friends etc. Also our adverts could be blown up and be put on sides of bus stops etc. this would be good advertising as many people (not even our target audience) would see it and may be influenced into buying it.

Our advertisement would be placed in the appropriet place, it would be in magazine such as NME, this is appropriet as our target audience read NME therefore seeing our advert. Also NME is a very popular magazine, so our adverts would be seen by many.
I would have to go to NME and talk size and location in the magazine to get a cost for the advert as specific sizes and locations may be more expensive than others e.g a bigger sized advert would be more expensive than a smaller one. People would gain information about the genre (alternative rock) from NME.
A single would be hyped up as much as possible to get people exited therefore acheiving more sales. Our single "A Kiss with a Fist" would be released on the 25th March this would be advertised around 2 weeks before the single was releaed as a CD and avalible to download on itunes, the reason for this is that people wont get bored of waiting e.g if it was like a month before people would forget about the adverts and poster and may become bored with it all, but two weeks is enough time for people to generate enough hype and get exited it would make people aware of the single. also two weeks gives enough time for people to save money to buy it.
A CD cover requires the name of the artisit which is clearly visable, the title of the song, the artist name should be clearly visible, the title should be distinguishable from the artists name and the genre of music should be hinted by the cover art. The sizes of the cd covers are 4.724x4.724.
I feel as we have acheived this as a group as both the title of the song and the name of the artist is clear and readable on screen. Our cd covers would be the size above.
Adverts need to convince poeple to buying the product that it is advertising, it needs to be clear on what it is advertising also. Adverts can be many different sizes depending on where they are.
As a group we have done this ass we have used opinions which would convince people into buying our CD e.g *****- Q, people that read Q would be intrested in the single as Q are giving a good review.

QUESTION 4

How did you use new technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

For this coursework we have used new technologies in the research, planning and evaluation stages we have used a various things such as ...

We used google to reearch our artist and all relative information that we needed to know to help us.

Obviously a camera was used when filming. When doing this i learnt that when tracking it is important to keep the camera as steady as possible in the scene in our video where the camera is tracking florences feet this had to be filmed a few times as my hands were a bit shakey. Also making sure that all the shots were in the right setting.

We used Photoshop in our CD cover and advert tasks. It is quite complicated and takes a while to get used to it. I used many different tools like the lassomagnetic tool and the contrasting colour and contrast.

We posted our video onto you tube and facebook for feedback.

I movie was used for editing our video. It takes time again to get used too like photoshop, I learnt how to add effects in the video we put a vintage style effect on our video, this added to the genre of the music.

Finally prezi was used to present our evaluations. I have never used this before but found it quite easy to work, I learnt with this how to use it and add pictures and text.
